Catherine Kane, PhD, RN, FAAN, received her bachelor of arts in psychology from St. Louis University in Missouri and bachelor of science in nursing from the University of Kansas in Lawrence. She received her master of science in nursing from Pennsylvania State University in University Park, and her doctorate in nursing from the University of Rochester in Rochester, New York. Dr. Kane received her Certified Clinical Nurse Leader from the ANCC. She is currently an Associate Professor of Nursing and Psychiatric Medicine at the University of Virginia, School of Nursing. 

Dr. Kane has presented at numerous national and international conferences, speaking on the topics of schizophrenia, models of intervention and competencies for treatment. She has received numerous awards, including the Hildegard Peplau Leadership Award from the American Nurses Association in 2012, and has published extensively in Archives of Psychiatric Nursing, as well as other journals. Dr. Kane is Associate Editor of Japanese Journal of Nursing and Health Sciences, is on the editorial board of Archives in Psychiatric Nursing, and is a reviewer for six other journals. 

Dr. Kane is a member of the American Academy of Nursing, American Nurses Association, and American Psychiatric Nurses Association, International Society for Psychiatric Nursing, Mental Health America and National Alliance for the Mentally Ill.

Susan Jackson, MSN, PMHNP-BC, received her bachelor of science in nursing from Barton College in Wilson, North Carolina, her master of science in nursing from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and ANCC credentialing as an Adult Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. She is currently a Physician Extender at Johnston County Public Health, performing such duties as diagnostic interviews, health assessments and comprehensive evaluations of patients; prescribing, monitoring and managing pharmacological and related medications; and providing short-term and group psychotherapy.

Ms. Jackson is a member of the North Carolina Nurses Association, American Nurses Association, and American Psychiatric Nurses Association. She is also a past chair of the Advisory Committee to the Alternative Program at the Board of Nursing.

Irma Mahone, PhD, RN, received her bachelor of science in nursing from Eastern Mennonite University in Harrisonburg, Virginia, her master of science in psychiatric nursing and her doctorate in nursing from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. Dr. Mahone received Clinical Specialist Certification in Adult Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing by the American Nurses Association. She is currently Research Assistant Professor at University of Virginia, School of Nursing.

Dr. Mahone has presented at nearly 30 national and international conferences, speaking on the topics of shared decision making and community partnerships, among others.

She has received numerous awards, including the Jeanette Lancaster Endowment Fund of Faculty Excellence from 2008 through 2013, and has published articles in Archives of Psychiatric Nursing, and Issues in Mental Health Nursing, as well as other journals. Dr. Mahone has also been a peer reviewer for Archives of Psychiatric Nursing, among other journals.
1. Discuss the prevalence and consequences of nonadherence among patients with schizophrenia
2. Integrate evidence-based medical and non-medical interventions for improved schizophrenia treatment adherence into daily practice
3. Evaluate and interpret efficacy, safety, and outcomes data for antipsychotics for schizophrenia, including long-acting injectables
4. Select the most appropriate patients for LAI intervention
5. Institute discussions with patients that include incorporating LAIs as a potential management option
6. Provide appropriate care and counsel for patients and their families
